Barbakunda Union is a traditional union of Sitakunda Upazila, a land of natural beauty. In the course of time, Barbakunda Union is still known for its uniqueness in various fields including education, culture, religious education and sports.

* Naming:

There is a Barbakunda temple on a hill three miles south of Sitakunda and one mile east of it. This temple has two floors. There is a tank at the bottom of the temple. This tank is known as Barbakunda. According to the Hindus, bathing and tarpana in Barbakunda is the result of bathing in the Ganges. At one time many people used to come to Barabatirtha for worship and bathing in Barabkunda. Since then, the name of this area has become popularly known as 'Barbakunda'.
